Studio Notes:

Autumn and the Hallway Gallery:

This fall sees another exhibit at The Hallway Gallery in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of
Boston, MA.  My friend
Dan Hartshorn was in a group exhibit there in August of 2009, and it was
a fantastic show, so I am looking forward to the opportunity to exhibit.  Please come to the
opening reception on Thursday, 5 November, from 6-10 pm.

End of Winter and New Exhibits:
We're now in early February 2009, and exhibits are happening!  I've been very busy in the
studio working on much larger canvasses - there has been something of a shift in my recent
paintings: I've let myself move deeper into figuration and maybe even a bit of 'narrative'.  Hmm -
this is something of a return to some of the themes of my late college days.  There is one
painting that has perhaps had more influence on me than any other, a piece called
"Saltimbanques", circa 1904.

This painting evokes so many of the beauty and dis-ease of the human condition that is so very
dear to me, and resonates with my view of the world.  On a visual level, Picasso's ability to depict
the human form with such simplicity and with such a carefully quiet pallet is unmatched.  I've had
this painting on my mind continuously these days.

February marks the beginning of the
Art:Raw Inaugural Exhibition, at which I am displaying two
works from late 2008.  I'm very excited about this show - it features 300 artists from around the
world.  Be sure to come by for the opening on 19 February 2009 at 6:00 pm ET.

Exhibits and Works in Progress:
December 2008
marks the middle of an extremely active period for exhibitions.  I was very
happy to be a part of the 'Aliens and Zombies' exhibit at
Agni Zotis Gallery in New York City,
sponsored and managed by Reflect Arts.  I will also be participating in the
Reflect Arts opening
show at
ArtRaw gallery in New York City.  The feedback from the Agni Zotis show has been very
positive, and as a whole the show was a fascinating look at different 'states of being'.  I was very
fortunate to speak with Agni herself at length about the show, her gallery, and her own work.  A
truly gifted painter of multi-layered dreamscapes portrayed with great color clarity and boldness.

The beautiful holiday season finds me spending time in many places, having returned from a
short trip to Virginia (the above photo was taken at the Holly Wood Cemetery, Richmond, VA)
and planning what will probably be another overseas trip in February.  To where I'll go, I do not
know yet - although I just saw the most incredible Bosch painting in a book I was looking at, and
it is currently housed in Lisbon... hmm.

Preparation for July exhibit:
Spring 2008
has been very active here in my corner of Allston.  New canvasses are everywhere
and I've recently been weighted down with hordes of new paint.  As much as I love the winter, I
can't deny that spring has an infectious charm, and does draw a great deal of creative energy
out of me.

The New Studio:
September 2007
meant the move to the new studio in the Allston section of Boston.  The much
larger and brighter space was eagerly anticipated.  I will be updating the site with photographs
from the studio and the entire apartment as the months progress.
